Idaho GOP is Awesome
JJ writes,
From the Idaho Statesman:
SANDPOINT — It appears the Ron Paul wing of the Idaho Republican Party has scored its first victory at the party’s state convention in this North Idaho resort town.
The state party’s platform committee voted overwhelmingly Friday to add to state platform language supporting abolishing the Federal Reserve System and pegging the dollar to gold and silver.
The idea has been championed by Ron Paul, a libertarian-leaning Republican who recently gave up his run for the presidency.
Paul won 24 percent of the vote in Idaho’s Republican primary and many of his backers are at the convention trying to pull the party to the right and get Paul delegates seated at the Republican National Convention.
God bless Idaho!

Mike Huckabee Announcment
JJ writes,
UPDATE: Mike Huckabee just announced a “HUCK PAC” political action league blog. ZZZzzzzzzzz
On www.mikehuckabee.com there has been a mysterious countdown clock for the last week, counting down to Tuesday April 15th at noon. Nobody seems to know what it is counting down to. Will he announce his selection as Veep? Will he announce that a new job prospect? Will he admit that he was the second gunman on the grassy knoll? I guess we will find out tomorrow at noon.
Bob Barr Considers Bid
JJ writes,
Bob Barr puts the smack down on Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes. Its amazing how unintelligent they both sound when they interview people. What a disgrace.
It was almost as disgraceful as Sean Hannity’s interview with Ron Paul.

J.J.’s February Surprise
JJ writes,
With all jokes aside, I have been digging deep into my soul and have been challenging my (sometimes blind) faith in the fellows who run my party. They call themselves conservative… but are they really? I will admit, that because of my age and my preoccupation with my life, I have neglected my duty to fully understand the principles in which I publicly support. So I have taken steps to learn more, read more, and contemplate more on what political scholars write instead of what politicians say. Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. wrote in 2002:
“Leaders are rarely as ideologically sound as followers. The Nixonians were better than Nixon, and the Taftians were better than Taft. This stands to reason. Private intellectuals have more freedom to speak out; politicians, as a part of their job description, have to seek a broader appeal.”
Or in other words (my words), Politicians (and talking heads like Rush Limbaugh) consistently compromise their principles for what they call, “The Greater Good.” But should it be like that? Maybe in some minor cases (many would say)… but for your Core Principles? I don’t understand that logic of thinking. Is there any candidate out there that wouldn’t sell out his Core principles when pressured by whatever force or special interest (use your imagination)?
I can only think of one: Ron Paul. Yes, you read it right… and no, I am not sippin the fire water. I have officially changed my stance on who I support for the Presidency of the United States (to the chagrin of my wife who still supports Huckabee… it could be worse, look at Arnold and Maria).
Ron Paul and I have had our differences of course, many of which were due to my quick to judge, reactionary personality that I have been cursed with (just ask Guav, he knows it all too well). But all in all I don’t think there is a better candidate who will, without reservation, stay true to his campaign promises… promises that are consistent with the perseverance of our Constitution. I have come to realize of late that his Libertarian ideals truly resonate with me. Like I mentioned before, I am in a state of intellectual limbo (with my politics and my religion). Better said, I am still trying to nail down what I believe to be true. What’s the old saying? The more I learn the more I realize how ignorant I really am. That speaks to where I am at in my life right now.
No laughing Guav.

Where’s My Planks?
JJ writes,

History Lesson: Remember the fiscal mess our country went through in the 30’s and 40’s? And remember Franklin Roosevelt’s big brain child called “The New Deal?” It pretty much screwed the constitution, led to countless alphabet agencies, and took the conservative “planks” or principles, that were the foundation of their platform, and threw them over the proverbial fence. The GOP then led the way (so to speak) as the party of conservatism.
Question: Are we, as the GOP, throwing our planks away?
Answer: With the inevitable nomination of McCain and the last 8 years of Bush… it sure seems to point that direction, doesn’t it? I am truly sad for our country.

Turn the Page…
CS writes,
Another year is in the books. Reflection and hopeful anticipation fills our homes and lives. A sweet kiss to your spouse… good times.
On the horizon is not a brilliant sunset but a red sunrise. As the old saying goes, “Red at night is sailors delight. Red in the morning sailors take warning.” Reflection on this past year holds fond memories and rekindled friendships. It held many triumphs and a few try-slumps. However sweet the victories tasted when I look to the future this years outlook adds a tinge of bitterness to my taste.
The seeds our nation has sown over the years are budding blossoming. In 2005 our President signed the Real ID Act into law. It goes into effect in May of 2008. Prepare to relieve yourself of the burden of freedom. Well, personal privacy at-least.
We are making great progress in Iraq and it appears we are poised to continue this success. This does make the future a little brighter. To get our boys back home, or will we? I’m not talking cut and run. I’m talking victory and peace. But will 2008 be that year? Will the world find peace? OR will it continue to cry for “peace and safety”? Scriptures says they will cry for “peace and safety” and then sudden destruction. Which brings me to the crux of this post.
China. Yes, I am bringing out the well used soap box. This year China is holding the Olympics. China has been in our news - mainly about recalls. Are they trying to poison us? Well, that would be too slow and stupid. How about Taiwan? This year Taiwan is holding a “Referendum”. If you’ve been following this then you already know. If not then let me bring your attention to it. The Referendum is about Taiwan attempting to join the U.N. under the name of Taiwan. They have tried this once but it wasn’t voted on by the people of Taiwan.
China views this as a bonafied declaration of Independence (don’t even get me started on this). There has been so much goings on about this recently, but little has made it to the public eye. It is a flash point on the internation scene. Let’s pray that this doesn’t get out of hand.
Good times are now… this year holds many things that may bring our nation down several notches.
