Forewarned is Forearmed …

Or, as it is often said, visualization can do wonders for performance.

On the practical side of things, John Hawkins over at The Conservative Grapevine linked to this story at Handguns Magazine. Written by an experienced police officer, it chronicles personal interviews with over 200 survivors of gunfights to write, What Really Happens in a Gunfight? Good stuff. This is a three part series with a link to the other parts at the end of each one. The link above is to the first installment.

Indispensable Shooting Accessory …

BlueCollarMuse writes,

With Father’s Day coming up, I thought I’d post a URL to a site with some really cool shooting glasses as well as glasses for practical application.

Be sure and check out the testimonials. These glasses have deflected sniper rounds, stopped shrapnel from slashing eyes into uselessness and allowed the soldier to keep fighting with the shrapnel STILL EMBEDDED IN THE LENSES!

For some great gift ideas, print the page out and leave it where family and friends can find it.

Enjoy!!

Ice Cold Kool-Aid At NIC

Ok, I know I don’t usually regurgitate news here on 3G just for the sake of regurgitating, but I thought this was a noteworthy story since it’s right here in my backyard. Well, I guess a English professor out here at North Idaho College (where my mom and sister went to school) by the name of Jessica Bryan, has a bad habit of “Conservative Bashing” in her classroom. Now as fun as liberal bashing is, I would never call for the execution of all folks who voted Democrat… but this precisely what she did; Except she thought Republicans should be shot.

Now this type of hate speech is certainly not acceptable, especially in a English classroom and in Idaho of all states. Well this lady sure does wish she could take back some of her liberwocky:

From WND: Among the allegations: Bryan reported President George W. Bush won the election “because people … can’t read,” and, regarding the death penalty: “First we line up everyone who can’t think and right behind them, anyone who’s ever voted Republican.”

Now I guess, from reading the Headline article on WND, that the Feds are being asked to step in because Ms Bryan has been receiving some nasty little emails. They stepped up security and have changed her email and phone number. Here is just a few excerpt from very pissed off Right Wingers:

“You contemptuous excuse for an instructor. If you are trying to start another civil war and it comes about, I hope your family will be targeted first. As a Republican, I take umbrage at your suggestion that I should be shot. You’ll find that Republicans can shoot back.” “Screw you, communist (expletive deleted). Even though you are entitled to your opinion we all have freedom to vote anyway we please. You would do well teaching in Iran hating Jews. Bottom line I feel the same way about liberal (expletive deleted) such as you.” “I hope you lose your position and cease poisoning the flower of our future who enroll in your class with your leftist indoctrination.” “Pray that there’s never a right-wing coup d’etat in this beautiful nation [because] you’ll be one of the first ones floating in a river like your cronies did in Argentina and Chile.”

I know that Ms Bryan’s statements are a bit on the fringe, kool-aide drinking, left side of the fence, but that doesn’t mean we have to be just as crazy. I wish we would do exactly as these students did and challenge dipsticks like her, but let’s be careful not sink to her level.

JJ, out.

Lesson of the Day

JJ writes,

Ok, here is the lesson for the day: Have you ever heard of the the equation R-L=M ? Resource - Load = Margin… or in other words, Resource (things which one draws strength from, ie: God, family, exercise, or recreation), Load (a person’s stressors, ie: work, relationship problems, money issues, etc.), and Margin (ones overall emotional, mental, and physical well being). When a person has more Resource than Load, they live in a positive margin and are usually healthy overall (unless they are without God… but I will save that topic for a later post). When a person has more Load than Resource, they are said to be living in a negative margin and are generally overstressed and are on track for burnout.

I have been living in a negative margin for the last year and it has been directly my own doing. I have not been putting enough stock in my Resource. I have not had a close enough relationship with God or my family and I have not been taking care of myself like I should. So I have been on a mission to get myself back into the positive margin. I have drawn up a plan (and have started to implement it) that is a intentional overhaul of my lifestyle. I stress the word “intentional” because it has to be all or nothing when making changes such as these.

My plan involves becoming more spiritually healthy and to grow closer to God. It also includes taking more time for my family and putting more stock in my family’s safety, health, and spiritual well being. We must also take care of ourselves. I plan to spend more time in learning and reading and less time on unimportant, time wasting activities (ie: spending all day in front of that accursed TV). I want to spend more time having fun with friends and doing things I truly love.

“So the lesson of the day is: Live in the positive margin and take care of yourself, your family, and your relationship with God.”

Last Saturday we (Chad, Jonas, Jarrid, and I) decided to increase our Resource a bit . Click “more” to see how: (more…)

Study the Constitution

Sometimes strange things happen, good, but something I would not expect.

Tucked away in the 2005 appropriations bill is a little-noticed rider that is aimed at compelling students to spend every Sept. 17 learning about the U.S. Constitution.

A Parent’s Right

-[Medic]- writes,

Judging from the people that post here and (more or less) the people that comment here I am going to say that we believe that is is the right and duty of the parents of a child to decide and have a say in what the public schools teach their childern and if for some reason you do not agree with me I still think that. Recently you may have heard about father (David Parker) from Massachusetts who was arrested when he refused to leave the school that his 6 year old boy attended until he got written notification from the school when they planned to teach the childern about alternative lifestyles. This happened after months of letters, phone calls, and faxes between Parker and the school after his son brought home a “Diversity Bookbag” that contained the following:

Included was Robert Skutch’s “Who’s In a Family?” that depicts families headed by same-sex couples.

I think that Parker is completely within his right as a parent to tell the school not to teach his son this stuff. I know that when I eventually get married, have kids, and so on that if I don’t homeschool my kids whichever school I send them to is gonna be checked out every day to make sure that are not feeding my kid crap, its my right as a parent and there is no way there should even be a remote chance of a school being able to take that away from me. Anyway, I think I have summed up the situation pretty well and you can also read the related news article here. Weigh in and discuss.

In The Face of Evil

“one of the most moving and power-packed political documentaries ever made…”

JJ writes,

I bought this DVD for Chad for his birthday, and being the good friend that I am, previewed it for quality control. Yes, I know, I won’t receive “Best-Buddy of the Year” award anytime soon… but hey, I don’t want to give Chad low quality merchandise. This documentary was definately not low-quality by any measure.

My only qualm is that the narrator is a bit on the dry side and it is a smidge long. Regardless, It showed Reagan in his glory and detailed his brillant dismantling of Communist Russia. JJ gives it two thumbs way up.

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth …” –Ronald Reagan, 1964

Ranked “Best Documentary film of 2004″ by The Liberty Film Festival, “In the Face of Evil” is about a man and nation’s journey. It is not a biography of Ronald Reagan, but rather a hard-hitting documentary look at leadership and moral courage. Ronald Reagan’s visionary words from his first Inaugural address ring chillingly true in today’s unstable world: “When action is required to preserve our national security, we will act. We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow, and let there be no misunderstanding we are going to begin to act, beginning today.”

Bush: Schools Should Teach ‘Intelligent Design’ Alongside Evolution

-[Medic]- writes,

Monday, August 01, 2005 WASHINGTON — President Bush (search) said Monday he believes schools should discuss “intelligent design” (search) alongside evolution (search) when teaching students about the creation of life.

During a round-table interview with reporters from five Texas newspapers, Bush declined to go into detail on his personal views of the origin of life. But he said students should learn about both ideas, Knight Ridder Newspapers reported.

“I think that part of education is to expose people to different schools of thought,” Bush said. “You’re asking me whether or not people ought to be exposed to different ideas, the answer is yes.”

The theory of intelligent design says life on earth is too complex to have developed through evolution, implying that a higher power must have had a hand in creation.

All I can say about this article is FINALLY. For years I have been saying Creation should be taught along evolution because if they are gonna teach that evolution crap (which is offensive to me, maybe I should sue, lol ;) ) I think that they should also give a fair shake to the other side. I believe that Creationism should be taught in schools even more strongly after since has actually disbunked evolution as false. They are teaching a theory in schools, evolution is proven false and if you don’t believe that it is at very least an unverifiable theory. If you want to talk about proof about the beginning of the world there is more scientific proof and evidence for Creation than for evolution. It is hardly scientific but just go outside and looks around you, look closely, everything in the world has order and reason and pattern to it, how could any of that happen of God had not created it himself? Anwser, it couldn’t.

Last year at school I took a math course by Professor Ronald Buelow at Bethany and he had a series of mini-lectures that he gave the class (he is working on a book) called Divine Design which looked at the world and creation and shoed the evidence of God’s hand in everything. It is an excllent series of presentations and although you can’t actually view them I think you guys will like the premise.

In conclusion, lets get Creation taught in schools.
