Idaho Yo
JJ says,
Well its official: JJ is now an Idahoan. The air smells fresher, the water is clearer, and the potatoes are tastier. Yes, life is just that much better in Idaho. Fortunately for everyone who is reading this post, you too can become an Idahoan! There are a few things you must do first:
1) Repent of your Californian/New Yorker residency
2) Sell your house/ End your Lease
3) Pack your belongings and family up
4) Drive to Idaho
5) Unpack your stuff in your new Idaho house
6) Enjoy your new freedoms!
Simple as that.

It’s all so magical. You forgot to add #7. Git yerself an Idaho Honky Justice Tee!
When’s the 1st annual 3G Pheasant hunt??? Congrats on the move. Hope you and your family enjoy the new home.
Congrats indeed. Now you’re gonna make my lungs itch for REAL clean air and my back ache for a slower pace…
Did you know there are three times as many people living in my county as live in the entire state of Idaho?
One of these days we might just git back there.
I’v thought about my own private patch of Idaho. what are the car laws and home owner laws like? oh, and taxes and such. seem to recall it was easy going about firearms and such.
Car laws? Most of Idaho didn’t even have emissions testing requirements as of 5 years ago (YMMV - things may have changed slightly since then). Statewide sales tax is 5%. Homeowner laws? Not sure what you mean by that, but it’s pretty darn easy to own property there. One caveat though, is they don’t have the consumer protection measures that states like California do, so “buyer beware” means more there. I once bought a home in the Boise area with a terrible groundwater problem (the crawlspace underneath the house would flood with 6 inches of water periodically), and because I didn’t notice it before closing the deal I had no recourse. Idaho expects more of its citizens in terms of personal responsibility, I guess. Not a bad thing in my book.
JJ,
Welcome to the land of the free! Sit back, savor the fresh air, and enjoy!
Idaho Joe,
Thanks for the welcome. I grew up in Montana and even lived a short while in Post Falls, Idaho when I was a teen. I am glad to be back!
here in Michigan there is -no-testing or fee for a car other then license, plate and PLPD insurance. If it moves under its own power, has a plate and you are insured, you can drive it with a license. as for home owner laws I mean, whats needed for a private gun range, can/how fuel be stored, whats property tax like, weird building permits and codes, that sorta thing.
Awesome JJ!! Congrats. Looking at all the pics on PTA I’m envious. Why couldn’t the Lord have called me there instead!! Tennessee ain’t so bad though, it is getting crowded… even my tiny town is getting crowded. Thankfully it isn’t an alien invasion.
sorry to bother you guys.
Sorry Mors, not familar yet with all the Idaho laws.
its alright, I understand.
Mors,
The state actually offers a lot of information online for prospective residents. You can start with http://www.visitidaho.org/about/relocation.aspx, it is likely to answer a bunch of your questions, and will point you in the direction of other information for the questions it can’t.
thank you, (I’m not being sarcastic here) I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of that. too much info online to filter what I actually need out when searching the interwebs I suppose. need product info, search for reviews, find only places wanting to sell me said product. look to buy some thing find only reviews and so on. drives me nuts sometimes. thank you.
